The problem will happen even when the power adapter and usb are already plugged in before switching it on. But I Had no need or want to send it back because I was confident i could fix it myself.

I found an old USB cable I didnt care about and cut open the insulation. I then carefully snipped and taped the power wires, and not the data wires. Now, the review part. As I said above, this is a flawless controller apart from the power short-aging which you most likely won't experience and speed.

I love how you can actually scratch with this thing! My last controller was slow and you could not even attempt to scratch with. This, however is an amazing feeling. The entire chassis is steel or some other metal and the jog wheels are metal also. The cross fader is removable and Inno-Fader compatible. The jog wheels, in vinyl mode, are touch sensitive, and will pause a track on touch, and un-pause upon release. The buttons have a rubber, but sturdy feel, and when the power adapter is plugged in, are also vibrant, and bright!

Easily visible in the dark. The buttons are also very functional, there is a button for just about every control in the VDJ software. The front panel has switches that change this setting. Also, each channel has a master gain. The controller features 3 touch pads, One to select folders Left One to control files Right and one to select files and options Center I do not find these touchpads an addition to the contoller, but a flaw, they are not easy to use, and just plain cumbersome.

Bottom line. PROS: This unit has everything you'd ever need. From a features standpoint, it's a 5. This is an ideal product to put in the middle of your DJ rig, as it literally is a full functioning mixer at it's core, with midi controller functionality built around it. I plan on DJ'ing with vinyl, but keeping Traktor on Channel 2 and 3 until I build up a big enough vinyl library, and this is the best you can get for price.

Also, it's built like a tank. I did buy it used, and when it arrived, one pitch fader was damaged. That was a great experience. Their Customer Service, is excellent. The difference? The mapping for the effects section on Traktor doesn't correspond well to what the VSM4.

Your effects section per channel on the VSM4. I always end up needing to use the second click-knob for level, so I'd prefer a smooth one. Cons: I really liked the idea of the mouse pad built into the unit, unfortunately, it just plain doesn't work. The cursor moves a few inches when you do a huge swipe, and it's just not helpful. I really miss the browsing knob my Mixtrack had. One person found this helpful.

OK, so I wanted to wait till I had gotten some time up on the board before posting my review on this controller. I bought mine refurbished, BUT there wasn't even so much as a finger print on the controller, and everything works great.

Packaging was, as expected, more then adequate to protect the controller, all contents that should be in the box, was. The controller itself, lets just say the pics on here really don't do any justice for what the controller looks like when powered on. All kinds of different colored lights on this board, all color coordinated to make identifying in low to no light a lot easier Sound quality: folks, Im an audiophile, not only passionate about music but the quality in the sound.

As soon as I powered up the unit and threw on a track, the sound that came out was just pure clean music. I could bore you with all the specks they don't show you here, but trust me when I say I was actually surprised by this unit. Strong bass, tight mids with clear highs. The units features are more then ample, definitely can do a LOT with this board.

The jogwheels are so smooth in terms of working them, the stars on the side are actually cut out from the side of the jogwheels, its not a sticker or paint and offers a really good feel when handling the jogwheels. While there's a lot of good things to say about this controller, I did find a couple of cons to the VMS4. For starters, as I mentioned, the size and weight, can be an issue if your using a weaker stand, or if your a mobile DJ Can see this getting heavy fast by the end of the day, especially if you have it in a case.

While the jogwheels feel great by the stars and movement of the wheel, the actual pad on TOP, where most of your fingers would go There's black rubber pad shown in pics, its not a soft rubber pad, but more of a harder plastic, say etched by sandblasting for SOME grip, but I noticed when scratching, fingers would slowly slide across the surface of this pad. Last con, but certainly not least by any means I spent 18 days researching out how to get all 4 decks to fade properly AND have prelisten.

So you know, American Audio says 3n4 decks are live decks and can't be crossfaded, there is a way, you need to go to Virtual DJ's website, go to forums, search for vms4. Not sure about traktor or serato Would I recommend to a friend?
