Windows In snooping around on the web, I see reference to Windows Mobile Device Center being disabled in Windows 10 due to some threat of ransomware. If this is true, does MS intend to make a patch or upgrade available to rectify this????? This action has effectively put me out of business, or at least caused a great problem in transferring critical date back and forth out of my data collector.

I have an old machine with Win 7 on it and it works fine, but is in another building. Tennis shoe network This is most frustrating as until my last update in Win 10 it has been running fine. Win 7 was a great release. I have several thousand dollars tied up in equipment for which the speedy and non-problematic exchange of data between devices is critical.

Anybody else I just want to know if and when. For me there is no particular advantage of Win 10 over Win 7 and I will likely switch back. When something is working fine it does not need to be fixed. Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. The device, a survey data collector, Carlson Explorer JET , has worked flawlessly on a USB port with cable for some time, like multiple years and is heavily used. Recent auto update from Win 10 fixed that, now it does not work. Further, I went back to the previous version of Win Re-ran the update KB , scanned drivers outdated, new, etc.

When the peripheral is connected to the computer, I get a tone, but the computer indicates something unknown is plugged into the USB port. Windows Mobile Device Center, when opened manually, goes to the first screen and stays there I have removed it and replaced it with a newer version, WMDC 6.

So, I take the data collector and hike over to my home, where using the same cable and interface on an old computer running Win 7 Pro, the device hooks up and runs flawlessly. This would indicate there is a problem with the new update of Win 10 to me Very frustrating. Not only did the update screw this up it also wiped out my Brother printer software. I have gotten everything running except WMDC. The people at Microsoft need to understand the impact of their actions.

I have looked over everything I can see that might help. Somebody said use "sync center" but it won't see the data collector but windows knows something is there. I think the problem is that the Windows CE equipment needs active sync or something to communicate. Whatever it is, it ain't in Win I have a friend who just downloaded everything he had and went back to Windows 7 Pro. My God. I would implore the good folks at Microsoft to fix this problem. This equipment is far more expensive than Win 10 which is the only thing that renders it useless.

The surveyor can't use the equipment if he can't exchange data in a quick, efficient and fluid manner. Today I downloaded my computed coordinates from my Win 10 computer to a thumb drive, then hoofed it over to my house and loaded that onto an old computer with Win 7 Pro great program and better than 10 for the working man then hooked the data collector to that machine and transferred the data immediately using the same cable and collector.

I think everybody should just send Microsoft bucks and tell them to stop fixing things that work. Hell, I was plenty happy with XP Pro. Win 10 is a product that trades productivity for fu-fu-and fluffy. Since you recently updated your Windows 10, this issue may have something to do with an outdated driver.

What we can suggest is that you update your survey data collector's driver by going to the device manufacturer's website. With all due respect, the problem lies in the interface between Win 10 and Windows Mobile Device Center which cannot get beyond the opening screen since the update KB Computer loads the opening screen logo, etc. The computer acknowledges the hookup of the data collector by "plug" sound, but the device doesn't show up in File Explorer, just isn't there.

By the way, that program will normally load up without any device hooked up to the computer, hence my opinion. When the system works correctly, the data collector shows up on File Explorer much like a remote hard drive or thumb drive. Yes, these data collectors and such are a bit older, this one is running Windows CE version 6. It works flawlessly on a different machine with Win 7 Pro and has run flawlessly on Win 10 till this recent update.

Whatever you can find out with regard to Windows Mobile Device Center and this issue, please advise. I am now going on a quest to download yesterday's data on my other machine in another building, put the information on a thumb drive, bring it back here and load it on my work machine.

Reminds me of the old days when we did not even enjoy peer to peer abilities. Thanks Dennis and all who have commented. I think this is bigger issue than Microsoft understands. There are many, many mobile peripherals that will undoubtedly be effected by this issue.

For instance, some meter readers utility stuff and a lot of surveyors and GIS persons use these same devices. We are experiencing the same issue. We have over 1, of these running in logistic operations. Now we have customers from all over the world calling saying their Mobile Computer will not sync,,, We have not found a resolution,.

I cannot believe the arrogance of Microsoft. We have calls into Zebra Technologies, but have not received a reply. I think a class action law suite may be in order. OUR advise. Hello Dennis Mop: With regard to my previous post about Win 10 and CE hookup issues and your questions: The device, a survey data collector, Carlson Explorer JET , has worked flawlessly on a USB port with cable for some time, like multiple years and is heavily used. E bostock. In reply to Cletus's post on June 12, I am having the same issue. Plugged in my Nomad and can't download today's files. Tried to repair windows mobile and received the massage that windows was not configured for the program.

I have an SD card in the Nomad which I download my files to but it is a pain to have to keep taking the card out of the Nomad just to download one file. In reply to E bostock's post on June 13, Well thank You Bostock. The job is stressful enough without these kinds of headaches. Anyway, if you figure this out please advise. Peter Deelen. In reply to Cletus's post on June 13, Same Issue here, with a Symbol Motorola usb handheld scanner.

Let us know the result once you've updated the driver.
